The planning applications we all opposed in June were withdrawn in July.  But 2 new applications were immediately submitted which are very similar.

P/10/01420/CAC - Demolition of 12, Russells Cresxcent - identical to previous P/10/00859/CAC

P/10/01419/F - Proposal to demolish number 12 and build 9 apartments on the site.

This new application only differs from P/10/00858/F in 2 respects:

 - it is reduced in depth by 1.5m (just under 5 feet)
 - an overlooking 1st floor window has been altered

All other aspects of the proposal remain unchanged.  The new proposal remains more than 50% larger (in ground floor space / footprint) than the larger properties in the road, in a plot that is only equivalent in size to other single family home plots.  For full details see letter attached below.

Deadline for letters of support or objection need to reach Reigate and Banstead Borogh Council or the Horley helpshop by Tuesday 7th September latest - TOMORROW !!.  It is possible to send in your letter by email to: planning.applications@reigate-banstead.gov.uk

A recent Horley Town Council meeting attended by several Russells Crescent residents was pleasing in that the planning application was unanimously opposed, and strongly opposed.  The Horley Town Council's response can now be read on the Reigate and Banstead planning search website under "related documents" attached to this planning application.

However, the Planning Committee for the Borough need not agree with the Town Council's view, and they could still vote to pass the application to build 9 apartments on this site.  It is likely to be debated at the Planning Meeting on 28th July (TBC).  If residents wish to attend they must register to do so in advance with the clerk for the committee.

Wayside has attracted a lot of unwanted visitors lately, requiring several visits to the property by our emergency services.

 - gypsies - scouting the property for lead and copper piping - police called
 - vandals - youths from Jack Fairman pub - police called
 - insertion of blue portacabins by owners, to prevent vehicles accessing the site
 - removal of piping causing water damage  - police called
 - gas leak caused by vandalism to piping - fire and police called to make the property safe
 - couple caught stealing contents - owner's response was "we don't really mind"

Given these latest events residents living nearby are keen to resolve the future of this property as soon as possible.

Attached here is a letter to residents summarising the issues to think about when deciding whether to oppose the development of 9 apartments on the Wayside plot at 12, Russells Crescent, Horley.  This impacts residents in Russells Crescent, Burton Close and Hamilton Close.

Submissions to the Council must be in by:

 - Tuesday 15th June - to oppose the demolition of the existing property
 - Thursday 24th June - to oppose the 9 apartment development

But objecting to the 2nd one could be aided by objecting to the first one.

Do people not realize what a "blessed" nuisance it is when they do not cut their hedges etc. ?
We have many elderly residents in the area and I often see them having to go into the road to get around  bushes and trees overhanging from gardens.

Since the previous post the council has re-painted the lines and boxes on the station forecourt.   Well done !  Unfortunately, there are still some able "caring people" who think their need is greater than those with disabilities.

I agree with you in the main - but it is not only taxidrivers.    Lots of other, selfish people feel they need to be as close to the entrance as possible.   Still, with a bit of luck they will someday find out how irritating this is...
